Physical DescriptionPhotographic portrait of President Gamal Abdel Nasser of the United Arab Republic. Black and white. Enclosed in (B) silver frame, engraved with pattern of leaves and flowers with six circles of cross-hatch marks. Relief eagle crest at top. Green plush back with brass hanging rings.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: [Arabic]. [Translation: “To President Lyndon Johnson with greetings and best wishes, Gamal Abdel Nasser”].
Historical NoteGamel Abdel Nasser was the President of Egypt from 1956-1970. He was anti-imperialist and nationalized the Suez Canal and was associated with pan-Arab unity.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
