Historical NoteJapanese Prime Minister Eisaku Sato gave this photogrgaph to Lyndon Johnson on January 12, 1965 when he visited Washington D.C. to discuss American control of Okinawa and the Bonin Islands, which were ruled by Japan prior to World War II.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
