Physical DescriptionPhysical DescriptionBronze coin dated to the Bar Kochba War. The obverse of the coin shows a cluster of grapes at center encircled by Hebrew lettering. The reverse shows a palm tree at center with Hebrew lettering on bottom half of coin. Lettering translates to "Eleazar the Priest, year one of the redemption of Israel".
Historical NoteThis coin was part of a set of Ancient Hebrew coins presented to President Johnson by Prime Minister Levi Eshkol of Israel during an official visit to the LBJ Ranch on January 7-8, 1968. This coin was struck during the Bar Kochba uprising by the Jews of Judaea against the Roman Empire.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
