Physical DescriptionBronze coin dated to Hebrew High Priest John Hyrcanus. The obverse of the coin shows Greek text surrounded by a laurel wreath. The reverse shows a double cornucopia adorned with ribbons with a pomegranate between horns, with borders of dots.
Historical NoteThis coin was part of a set of Hasmonean (Ancient Hebrew) coins presented to President Johnson by Prime Minister Levi Eshkol of Israel during an official visit to the LBJ Ranch on January 7-8, 1968. The coin was minted during the leadership of High Priest of Israel John Hyrcanus (134-104 B.C.E.).

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
