Physical DescriptionSilver coin dated to the First Jewish Revolt. The obverse of the coin shows a chalice with lettering at the top. The reverse shows three pomegranates stemming from a single branch surrounded by lettering. Hebrew inscription translates to “Shekel of Israel, Year three, Jerusalem the Holy”.
Historical NoteThis coin was part of a set of Ancient Hebrew coins presented to President Johnson by Prime Minister Levi Eshkol of Israel during an official visit to the LBJ Ranch on January 7-8, 1968. This coin was struck by Jewish rebels during the First Roman-Jewish War (66-73 C.E.).

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
