Historical NoteThis bowl was a gift from Amir Abbas Hoveyda, the Prime Minister of Iran. On December 5-8, 1968, he visited Washington D.C. and discussed technological and scientific policies and policies towards Southeast Asia, Israel, and the Persian Gulf.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
