Physical Description
Physical DescriptionBrooch. Gold filigree hut with coconut tree. Coconut-laden tree top has 8 filigree leaves. The trunk is curved. The filigree hut has a conical roof with finial. Hinged pin on back with hook catch. No markings. Presented during official White House visit March 29, 1965.
Historical NoteThis gold hut brooch was given to the Johnsons by His Excellency Maurice Yameogo, President of the Republic of Upper Volta, and Mrs. Yameogo on March 29, 1965, during a state visit to Washington, D.C. Upper Volta was renamed Burkina Faso in 1984 following a coup d’ete.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to the President, First Lady or member of the First Family during President Johnson's term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 20, 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
