Physical DescriptionBracelet comprised of 9 pieces of amber encircled and linked by gold wire, and a larger amber pendant. Most pieces are faceted with 3 facets. Spring clasp.
Historical NoteThis bracelet was given to Lady Bird Johnson by His Excellency Joaquin Balaguer, President of the Dominican Republic via Vice-President Hubert Humphrey, who received the item on behalf of the First Lady at the inuguration of President Balaguer for his second term as President following the 1965 civil war. The Johnson administration sent US troops to intervene and bring the war to a close over concerns about the possibility of a communist dictatorship in the Dominican Republic, and the affect it might have on US efforts in Vietnam.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Lady Bird Johnson during the Johnson Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
