Physical Description
Physical DescriptionNecklace. Double strand of antique round agate beads interspersed with metal links. There are 8 groups of beads with 2 on inner strand and 3 on outer strand, giving the necklace a curved shape. The 7 metal pieces are composed of repousee chevron ornaments attached to solid backs. There are 3 matched pairs of metal links with the center one being unique. The three center metal pieces each have a piece of red cut glass in cabachon setting. Hook closure. No markings. Presented during informal White House visit August 2, 1966.
Historical NoteThis orange agate necklace was given to Lady Bird Johnson by His Excellency Zalman Shazar, President of Israel on August 2, 1966 during an informal visit to the White House.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to the President, First Lady or member of the First Family during President Johnson's term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 20, 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
