Physical DescriptionOil painting. Portrait of a seated George and Martha Washington with their family standing by them. A view of a river can be seen from behind a curtain. Washington's hat, seen on the table beside them, has a revolutionary military floret attached. Gold-guilded wood frame.
Historical NoteThis painting of George Washington’s family was given to President Lyndon B. Johnson by Norman K. Winston during a trip to New York City. This painting was made by an unknown painter in the late 19th Century, and holds a strong resemblance to Edward Savage’s “The Washington Family.”

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
