Physical DescriptionLBJ Special Cancellation Postcard. The cachet on the envelope is a portrait of LBJ and the Presidential Seal. Cachet text: "The Great Society". Two stamps adhered at upper right: 5c "Stop Traffic Accidents" and 4c "Wheels of Freedom". Postmarked at: Washington DC - Sept 9, 1966.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "Thomas Mann", "William Haddin M.D. Administrator, National Highway Safety Agency", "Unsafe at Any Speed Ralph Nader". On reverse, handwritten across bottom: "LBJ signs auto safety bill into law. signed by Wm Haddin Admin, National Safety Agency, Thomas Mann, Pres. Auto Mfg Assoc & Ralph Nader."
Historical NoteThis LBJ Great Society postcard was postmarked on September 9, 1966, the date of the Auto Safety Bill signing. The envelope was signed by Ralph Nader, among others.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
