Physical DescriptionLBJ Inauguration Special Cancellation. The cachet on the envelope is an oval portrait of LBJ. Cachet text: "Inauguration of Lyndon B. Johnson", "36th President of the United States", "January 20th, 1965". Three stamps adhered at upper right: 5c American Flag in front of White House, 3c "United States Postage Centennial", "The Alamo", 3c "National Capital Sesquicentennial". Postmarked at: Washington D.C. - Jan 20, 1965.
Historical NoteMany commemorative items were produced to celebrate the inauguration of President Johnson, including this First Day of Issue commemorative cover. It was postmarked on January 20, 1965, the day President Johnson took his Oath of Office.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
