Physical DescriptionChamizal Souvenir Stamp Sheet and Special Cancellation. The cachet on the sheet is a portrait of LBJ and Gustavo Diaz Ordaz of Mexico on either side of the image of a stamp of them meeting at Chamizal. Adhered at upper left: 6c US flag stamp. Cachet text: "Dedication of new river channel between El Paso, Texas and Cd. Juarez, Chih, Mexico". Adhered at upper right: 15c Benito Juarez stamp. Postmarked twice at: El Paso TX - Dec 13, 1968, Juarez Chihuahua - Dec 13, 1968.
Historical NoteThis stamp souvenir sheet commemorates the new river channel between El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico in the Chamizal area. What was once disputed territory because of the meandering of the Rio Grande was finally settled upon on by President Lyndon B. Johnson of the United States and President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz of Mexico. Postmarked on December 13, 1968 in both the United States and Mexico.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
