Physical Description
Physical DescriptionCeremonial chased steel sword (part A) with an ivory handle decorated with a single, large emerald on the hilt. Woven gold chain connects the hilt with the tip of the handle. In an elaborately chased gold sheath (part B) with woven gold chain connected by two large gold loops.
Historical NoteThis ceremonial sword and sheath was given to President Lyndon B. Johnson by His Majesty Faisal ibn Abd al-Aziz Al-Saud, King of Saudi Arabia on June 21, 1966 during a state visit to Washington, D.C.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
