Physical Description
Physical DescriptionCeremonial sword. Blade is stainless steel w/ multicolored enameled panels on both sides arranged geometric and filgree patterns with arabic inscriptions. Ivory handle and gold hilt decorated w/ emeralds, diamonds and rubies and applied gold applique's depicting a leaf frond and Moroccan coat of arms. Gold sheath set with emeralds and diamonds along its rim, length, and lyre-shaped panel on the tip. Presented in green leather-covered presentation case stamped with gold, lined with white satin.
Historical NoteCeremonial sword and sheath set that was given to President Lyndon B. Johnson by His Majesty Hassan II, King of Morocco on February 9, 1967, during a state visit to Washington, D.C.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
