Physical DescriptionPocket watch in engraved 18k gold case. White watch face with black numerals and hands, and red numerals for minutes, imprinted 'Hamilton." Engraved on the back in script: "Saml E. Johnson Mountain City Hays Co. Texas."
Historical NoteThis pocket watch belonged to Lyndon Johnson’s grandfather, Sam Ealy Johnson, Sr., and handed down to his father, Sam Ealy Johnson, Jr. His grandfather was born in Alabama and followed a brother to Texas in the late 1850s. Sam Ealy Johson Jr. served in the Texas House of Representatives in the early 1900s, and was a farmer and cattle speculator.
