Lady Bird holds a program ("White House Arts Festival"). Caption: “And They Think They Have Difficulty Understanding My Vietnam Policy…”. Artist signature lower right: "Sanders”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower center: "For President Johnson with high regards and best wishes from a fellow art lover - Bill Sanders".
Historical NoteLyndon Johnson was angered during the 1965 White House Festival of the Arts and refused to engage in discussion with the writers and artists who used the festival to express their protest against the war in Vietnam and United States intervention in the Dominican Republic in 1965.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
