Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ is dressed as a cowboy and rides a donkey over a hurdle ("Civil Rights issue"). Artist signature lower center: "Langley".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "29-".
Historical NoteThe Civil Rights Act of 1957 was intended to protect Black voting rights. Lyndon Johnson was able to get it passed through the Senate by weakening it, as to not break up the Democratic Party.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
