Historical NoteFollowing the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as president on November 22, 1963 while on an airplane. As president, Johnson announced his plans to continue and expand Kennedy’s policies. In this cartoon, as the country gets adjusted to Johnson as the new president, he faces criticism.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
