Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Cowboy LBJ armed with a revolver ("'52 Campaign Artillery") gestures toward two exhausted donkeys ("The Ol' Guard" and "Army Brass") in front of the Alamo flying a large Texas flag. LBJ says, "There's a way to lead'em--and a way to drive 'em." Within the Alamo is text: "Thermopylae had its messenger of defeat The Alamo had none". Caption reads: "The Young Man with the Big Know How". Artist signature lower right: "Lynn Brudon." Additional text lower left: "Orlando Morning Sentinal February 16, 1951

Historical NoteWhen this cartoon was made, Senator Lyndon Johnson was the Senate Majority Whip. During the 1952 election cycle, Dwight Eisenhower ran as a moderate Republican candidate against Adlai Stevenson the governor of Illinois as the Democratic candidate.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
