Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ holds a club ("Lyndon Says No!") and has given a man ("Knowland") a lump on his head. Knowland sprawls on floor under scattered papers ("Labor Reform Legislation"). Caption reads: "Better Save Yourself for California!". Artist signature lower left: "Gib Crockett Washington Star."

Historical NoteWilliam Knowland was the Senate Majority Leader with the Republican Party from 1953-1955. He was succeeded by Lyndon Johnson, the Democratic leader, and then became the Minority Leader from 1955-1956 and 1957-1959.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
