Historical NoteWhen this cartoon was made, Senator Lyndon Johnson was the Senate Majority Leader and William Knowland was the Minority Leader. Al Gore Sr. was a Democratic senator from Tennessee who served on the Senate Ways and Means Committee. In 1956, he helped get the Federal Aid Highway Act and refused to sign the pro-segregation Southern Manifesto.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
