Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ ("Sen. Lyndon Johnson") approaches an old man ("History") sitting at a desk and offers him a piece of cake ("50th Anniversary Today"). The man is checking off accomplishments in a large ledger ("85th Congress Record"). LBJ says, "Take a break and have a piece of my birthday cake!". Artist signature lower left: "Dale."
Historical NoteThe 85th Congress took place from January 3, 1957 - January 3, 1959 under President Eisenhower. Some of the important issues for this Congress were the Civil Rights Act of 1957, the Little Rock Crisis, the launching of Sputnik, and the Gaither Report.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
