Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Uncle Sam is in bed with lines emenating from his head and stomach ("Tax Cut", "Foreign Aid", "Natural Gas Tax", "Farm Prices"). Through the window of the room, a man ("Senator Lyndon Johnson") is running toward Uncle Sam with his medical bag ("Senate Leadership"). Caption reads: "The Patient Is Now the Doctor". Artist signature lower left: "Dale."

Historical NoteWhen this cartoon was made, Senator Lyndon Johnson was the Senate Majority Leader. In July 1955, he had previously recovered from a near fatal heart attack.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
