Historical NoteIn 1966, the United States federal government had a budget of $134.5 billion. Of this, $69.6 billion was dedicated to defense, including the Vietnam War. All this government spending from the war and Great Society, as well as a tax cut to increase spending by consumers and businesses, led to inflation.
