Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. With barbed-wire in the background, LBJ leans over a WWI trench and motions to a ragged and bearded old soldier ("Wartime Excise Taxes") that he can come out. Caption reads: "You Mean It's Really Over?". Artist signature lower right: "Karl Hubenthal L.A. Herald Examiner".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at bottom center: "For President Johnson - Thanks Mr. President!".
Historical NoteExcise taxes are taxes on the purchase of specific goods and services. In June 1965, President Johnson signed a law decreasing excise taxes.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
