Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A giant hatchet ("Cut Excessive Spending") stands up on its handle. It has roots that extend all over the U.S. Caption: “Grass Roots Mandate”. Artist signature lower right: "Warren King”.

Historical NoteThe Revenue Act of 1964 was passed by Lyndon Johnson February 26th. It was initially proposed by John F. Kennedy and reduced income tax rates.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
