Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ holds a Santa mask up to a mirror next to a large bag filled with a card ("Merry Christmas Wishes from Santa LBJ”) and gifts (“Price Stability”, “No Recession", “Expanding Economy”, “No Food Price Increases in Sight”, and “Continued Prosperity”). A man (“Vietnam”) holds a box ("Tax Increase?") asking, "Including Made-in-Vietnam Item?" Artist signature lower right: "Temple”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: “T-P Thursday Dec 8.”. Handwritten at lower right: “35 picas”.
Historical NoteWhen Lyndon B. Johnson signed the 1964 Revenue Act that decreased income taxes and refused to raise taxes, spending by consumers and businesses increased. Along with government spending from the Vietnam War and Great Society, all of this increase of demand led to inflation.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
