Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ snatches a book ("Dr. Spock") from Luci's hands. A small figure holds a sign (“It’s banned in Johnson City”). Additional text at lower left: “Boston Herald-Traveler”. Artist signature lower right: "Dobbins May 3, 1967”.

Historical NoteBenjamin Spock was a pediatrician and activist who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. and spoke out against the Vietnam War. Luci Johnson had her first child, Patrick Lyndon Nugent, in 1967.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
