Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Frame 1: “Dear Mr. Johnson, I am starting a collection of famous marriage proposals. I need to have when you proposed to Mrs. Johnson and what you said. It doesn’t have to be the exact words. A loyal fan, Eleanor K. Bangor, Maine P.S. If you forgot, ask Lady Bird.” Frame 2: A girl speaking to another girl says, "What if she can't remember either?" Additional text at lower left: “from ‘Dear President Johnson’ selected by Bill Adler illustrated by Charles M. Schulz William Morrow and Company 1964”. Artist signature lower right: "Schulz". Historical NoteLyndon Johnson proposed to Lady Bird in 1934 during their first date.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
