Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ (“‘Grandpa’ L.B.J.”) looks while a stork carries a baby ("Patrick Lynden Nuggent"). Lower left frame 1: A man announces, “The population explosion has first priority to space and population explosion problems Quote L.B.J.!" into a microphone. Lower left frame 2: The man continues and says, “K.L.A.C. Metro-Media News is happy to announces that the president gives first priority to space & population explosion problems as of June 21, 1967”. Historical NotePresident Johnson was a very doting grandfather when his first grandchild, Patrick Lyndon Nugent, was born. The Space Race was the competition between the United States and the Soviet Union to further space exploration and technology out of fear of space being used for nuclear power.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
