Historical NoteHarold Wilson, the prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1964-1970, did not offer military aid to the United States during the Vietnam War, but he did not condemn American actions. On January 23, 1968, the USS Pueblo was captured by North Korea, which claimed that the ship had entered North Korean territory. In response, President Johnson negotiated for the release of the captive sailors to avoid getting into another war. Also in early 1968, the Tet Offensive began in Vietnam, which increased the unpopularity of the Vietnam War in the United States.Additional Details
