Historical NoteIn May 1967, Lyndon Johnson and other world leaders traveled to West Germany to attend the funeral of former chancellor Konrad Adenauer. Meanwhile, the Vietnam War continued to escalate, leading to 500,000 American troops in Vietnam over 1967.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
