Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ and a man (identifiable as Harold Wilson) pursue a butterfly ("Rhodesia's White Rule") with big nets ("Economic Sanctions"). They are running around tall people’s legs ("Africans' Demand For Force"), stepping on their toes. Caption: “Great Exercise, Harold- But We're Stepping on the Toes of My Friends!”. Artist signature lower right: "L.D. Warren”.

Historical NoteOn November 11, 1965, Ian Smith, the prime minister of Southern Rhodesia declared independence from the United Kingdom with the Unilateral Declaration of Independence. It was governed by the white minority. The United Kingdom responded with economic sanctions.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
