Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Long line of men including four men (identifiable as Sukarno, Tito, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Gamel Abdel Nasser) thumb their noses as they hold out their hands. Another man (identifiable as Nikita Khrushchev) runs saying, "--and the wheat deal?". Caption: “Salute to Foreign Aid”. Artist signature lower left: "Warren King."

Historical NoteThe United States has used foreign aid, such as its wheat production to negotiate with other countries. For example, the US sold wheat to the Soviet Union in 1963. Despite the aid, many countries were still skeptical of the United States.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
