Historical NoteLyndon B. Johnson's foreign aid policy focused on using economic and military assistance to promote development and counter communism. He emphasized "self-help" measures, where aid was contingent on recipient countries implementing reforms. Johnson also linked foreign aid to U.S. strategic interests, especially in the context of the Vietnam War.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
