Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ is a soldier in a trench. He holds a pop gun ("Foreign Aid") that was in a box ("From Congress"). A huge tank marked with a hammer and sickle looms nearby. A small piece of paper “Copley Newspapers” adhered to lower left. Caption: “Oh Goodie, Just What I Needed!”. Artist signature lower left: "Bob Stevens”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper right: “Mar 17 - 68”.
Historical NoteThe United States has used foreign aid to negotiate with other countries. However, in this cartoon, Johnson would prefer military support against Communist influences.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
