Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man (identifiable as J. William Fulbright) has a paper ("Congress - Racing Form") in his pocket and looks into the mouth of a race horse ("Foreign Aid"). LBJ, the jockey, speaks to him. Caption: “Mind If I Give a Look, Before I Place My Bets?”. Artist signature lower left: "L.D. Warren”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower center: [blue] “33 ½ picas” “Wed 9 Jun 65”.
Historical NoteJ. William Fulbright was a Democratic senator from Arkansas. He was the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and supported detente policies. He became one of the loudest critics of the Johnson administration’s Vietnam policy. He gave a speech on Vietnam on June 15, 1965, just a few days before this political cartoon was made.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
