Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ, with a huge albatross ("Vietnam") hanging from his neck, runs up to a group of astonished men ("Latin American Summit Conference"). Caption: “Howdy, Amigos--What's Your Problem?”. Artist signature lower right: "Basset”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across the bottom: "To Lyndon Johnson, with best wishes - Gene Basset”. Handwritten at lower right: [circle] “59”. Handwritten at lower right: “4/18/67”.
Historical NoteIn April 1967, Lyndon Johnson met with the heads of state in Latin America in Punta del Este, Uruguay, promising financial support to other nations in the Americas. Over 1967, the year this cartoon was made, Johnson had escalated the Vietnam War to include over 500,000 American troops.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
