Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ, wearing a hat ("Punta del Este"), is mounted on a donkey loaded with a bag ("$"), a crate ("Market") and a suitcase ("Alliance for Progress"). He holds a banjo ("Hi Fi USA"). A man (“Fulbright”) pulls the donkey's tail toward the Capitol. Caption: “Amigos!”. Artist signature lower left: "Peb”.
Historical NoteIn April 1967, Lyndon Johnson met with the heads of state in Latin America in Punta del Este, Uruguay, promising financial support to other nations in the Americas. In 1961, John F. Kennedy proposed the 10-year Alliance for Progress plan that would have brought economic development in Latin America without Communism.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
