Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ hands money to a man who has abandoned a donkey cart ("Old Economic Barriers") for a new truck ("Latin American Common Market"). A note (“Punta del Este Summit Meeting”) is attached to the truck. Caption: “You Can Learn--I'll Pay for Your Lessons”. Artist signature lower right: "Ralph Vinson”.

Historical NoteIn April 1967, Lyndon Johnson met with the heads of state in Latin America in Punta del Este, Uruguay, promising financial support to other nations in the Americas. Johnson wanted to establish a common market in Latin America during this meeting.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
