Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man ("The U Thant - Directed Peace-Keeping Force") runs down a hill talking to another man running beside him with a notebook and pencil. There is a sign ("Mid-East Crisis") pointing in the direction they are running from. Caption: “Well--We Don't Keep Wars--Just Peace”. Artist signature lower right: "Bob Taylor”.
Historical NoteOn June 5, 1967, after a series of border skirmishes and rising tensions between Israel and Syria and Egypt, Israel attacked Egypt. This led to a war that lasted until June 10 between Israel on one side and Egypt, Syria, and Jordan on the other. Israel captured a lot of territory from the war and hundreds of thousands of Palestinians became refugees. U Thant was the secretary general of the United Nations.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
