Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ saws a huge dollar-shaped antler ("U.S. Foreign Spending") off a trophy ("The Buck") on the wall. The other antler ("Foreign Spending in the U.S.") is much smaller. Caption: “Interior Redecorator”. Artist signature lower right: "Bob Taylor”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: “1/4/68”.
Historical NoteGovernment spending abroad led to inflation in the United States. To slow down the economy and prevent further inflation, either spending had to be cut or taxes had to be raised.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
