Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Outside the White House gates, a man ("House") briefcase kicks a dog ("LBJ Sponsored Washington, D.C. Home Rule Bill"). Artist signature lower right: "R. A. Lewis Milwaukee Journal”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper right: “10/4/65” “11420”.
Historical NoteIn 1967, Lyndon Johnson proposed a plan to give Washington DC home rule so it could have a local government, made up of an appointed mayor-commissioner, assistant mayor-commissioner, and council. His plan passed in Congress.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
