Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Hubert Humphrey sits at the President's desk piled with papers ("The Most Important Job in the World") praying and sweating. On the floor is a note ("Dear Hubert, Everything O.K. Be back soon! L.B.J."). Caption: “Thanks…So Much”. Artist signature lower right: "McCarty”.

Historical NoteLyndon Johnson had a history of health problems, including an appendix surgery in 1937, a heart attack in July 1955, a kidney stone surgery January 1965, gallbladder surgery October 1965, and a benign polyp removal and repair of a scar from the gallbladder surgery in 1966. While he was out for surgeries, Vice President Hubert Humphrey took over presidential duties.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
