Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ talks to a picture of FDR on the wall and says, "How about this, Chief?". He holds a paper ("Freedom from Fear Goal for Streets, Parks, Schools and Homes LBJ's Program to 'Rebuild Cities'"). Artist signature lower right: "Temple”.

Historical NoteThe Housing and Development Act was signed on August 10, 1965 to expand federal housing, build more low income housing, and funded public works projects. On September 9, 1965, Johnson created the Department of Housing and Urban Development to oversee these projects.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
