Frame 1: LBJ confronts a man (identifiable as Everett Dirksen) with his quote ("‘There is no prospect of peace, no promise of stability, no hope for the better’ -Dirksen"). Frame 2: Dirksen explains. Historical NoteEverett Dirksen was a Republican senator from Illinois who was the Senate Minority Leader during Lyndon Johnson’s presidency. At first, he favored American involvement in Vietnam, but modified his position in 1967.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
