Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Drawing is on "The Cleveland Press" letterhead. Football player ("Browns") and a Native American ("Indians") approach LBJ from behind as he sits at his desk. The Native American hold three baseball bats. LBJ has several papers on his desk ("Crisis", Vietnam", "Crisis"). The football player says, "Er-ah-hrmmuph..Sir?..Uh I mean most honorable..that is, GULP...Mister Honorable...President". The Native American says, "Wot he's tryin't' say, sir, is...In behalf of all cartoonists in th' nation, we hope you will support our dream for a National Cartoon Center...Even if some cartoons willbe on sports! Thank Youse - very much". Artist signature lower left: "Sincerely - Lou Darvas".
Historical NoteDuring Lyndon Johnson’s presidency, several cartoonists sent him letters urging him to establish a National Cartoon Center, a museum of political cartoons, comic books, newspaper comics, animation, and other cartoons. No permanent museum was ever established, but a few exhibits were produced by a Museum of Graphic Arts in New York City in 1968.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
