Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Two men (LBJ and "Moyers"), with halos, folded hands and pious expressions, float in the air above a group reporters. Caption reads: "The President Would Like to By-Pass the Press, Since They Are Subject to Human Frailties". Artist signature lower right: "Basset".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "For Lyndon Johnson with best regards - Gene Basset".
Historical NoteLyndon Johnson was very involved with the media, but unlike Dwight Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy, he had less televised news conferences and more informal interviews. President Johnson paid close attention to the media as well and kept three televisions in the Oval Office. Bill Moyers was the White House Press Secretary from 1965-1967.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
