Historical NoteLyndon Johnson had a history of health problems, including heart attacks in July 1955 and April 1972, an appendix surgery in 1937, a kidney stone surgery January 1965, gallbladder surgery October 1965, and a benign polyp removal and repair of a scar from the gallbladder surgery in 1966.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
